We are seeking candidates for the role of Principal Lecturer in Nursing who will join a dynamic team committed to developing teaching excellence, nursing research and enterprise to contribute to achieving the School, Faculty and University strategic vision and aims. The ability to lead and manage across all fields of nursing and all levels of provision will be expected. You will demonstrate highly effective leadership skills and will have extensive knowledge and understanding of nursing and healthcare in higher education. You will have experience of providing effective leadership in a higher education setting and working in collaboration with employers and service users.

The Faculty of Education, Health and Wellbeing has over 500 staff members and 11,000 students. The School of Nursing delivers a wide range of professionally qualifying nursing courses. We have state-of the-art, newly developed skills centres to offer hands-on teaching of nursing and healthcare professions skills through a comprehensive range of state of the art equipment.

Principal Lecturer in Nursing - key roles and responsibilities

  • Lead a subject area or range of programmes and resolve problems affecting the quality of course delivery and student progress within own areas of responsibility.
  • Provide academic leadership and line management to staff working within the department to ensure the department delivers the strategic priorities for the faculty and university in respect of teaching and learning, research, scholarship and enterprise
  • Take part in relevant internal boards, committees and working groups at departmental or faculty level and be willing to travel across university campuses/sites

To be successful in the Principal Lecturer in Nursing role you will

  • Be educated to Master’s level and will be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council
  • Hold a Post Graduate Certificate in Education
  • Have extensive knowledge and understanding of nursing and healthcare in higher education.
  • Be able to demonstrate highly effective leadership skills and be committed to fairness, inclusivity and the promotion of equality and diversity
