Harper Adams University are looking to recruit a post-doctoral researcher to work alongside Professor David Rose, in an area related to his broad areas of interest, including, but not limited to:

  • Technology transitions in agriculture: understanding the implications of digitalisation, adaptive capacity of farmers and extensionists, technology adoption. Recent projects have focused on crop robotics, cultured meat, precision livestock farming, and the history of agri-tech transitions. David is also connected to the Centre for Effective Innovation in Agriculture which supports research to understand how agricultural R+D funding can best help farmers.
  • Ethical and just transitions: using the lenses of responsible innovation and ‘just transitions’ to explore future visions of food and farming, with a focus on substantive stakeholder inclusion. Creative and innovative methods are encouraged, and stakeholders can be interpreted broadly to include both human and non-human perspectives.
  • Mental wellbeing in farming: focusing on the landscapes of support for farm mental wellbeing and how to best support people who work in farming.
  • Behavioural change: using behavioural science to target interventions aimed at changing the behaviour of food and farming stakeholders. Recent projects have focused on animal health and welfare.
  • This is primarily a research post focusing on the production of high-quality research papers, grant proposals, and impact, but opportunities for teaching, student supervision, and industry engagement may be offered depending on the successful candidate’s preferences. Applicants from all disciplinary backgrounds are encouraged to apply, but projects should have a social science or humanities focus.
