Applications are invited for a full-time Postdoctoral Research Assistant to investigate cancer genomic heterogeneity in acute lymphoblastic leukaemia and its role in disease evolution. The post will be based in the Centre for Haemato-Oncology, Barts Cancer Institute, within the Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London with strong ties to a multipartner CRUK funded programme grant involving the Sanger Institution, UCL, and Newcastle University.
Focusing on genome wide bulk and single cell sequencing technologies the postholder will interrogate leukaemia tumours during the disease course, from diagnosis, drug refractory disease through to leukaemia recurrence with the aim of determining which evolutionary patterns account for resistance/relapse and what aberrant genotypes/phenotypes define therapy evasion. A number of opportunities for follow-up studies will arise from this approach, including in vitro and in vivo experimental work. The postholder must have experience in molecular biology and Multicolour Flow cytometry. Knowledge and experience in the field of cancer genetics and next generation/single cell sequencing is highly desirable. An above average level of commitment and motivation is a must.
This project leverages multicollaborative working and leadership in genetics, prognostication, clinical trials and chemo-resistance to execute a high quality investigation. The post will have close collaborative links with Bioinformatics teams at BCI led by Dr Jun Wang https://www.bci.qmul.ac.uk/en/staff/item/jun-wang and Cancer Evolution Groups under the stewardship of Professor Trevor Graham https://www.bci.qmul.ac.uk/en/staff/item/trevor-graham .
The ideal candidate will have a PhD in a relevant biological subject, possess strong organisational skills and be able to work independently and engage with cross faculty colleagues in basic, computational and clinical sciences. The studies will employ cutting-edge next generation genomics and computational analyses (in collaboration with Dr Jun Wang). Previous experience in cancer genetics or computational analyses is highly desirable but not essential, provided the postholder is highly motivated and undaunted by new challenges. The candidate will work in a world-class environment provided by QMUL BCI along with exciting new cross-faculty initiatives in genomics and computational biology.
The post is a full time, fixed term position for 2 years expected. Starting salary will be in the range £33,615 - £37,411 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, pension scheme and an interest free season ticket loan.
The Barts Cancer Institute requires that applicants invited for interview will need to provide all certificates to confirm their qualifications (specified in the Job Profile).
Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
Informal enquiries about this post, including arrangements to visit the Institute/Centre, can be made to Dr Bela Wrench Tel: 020 7882 2277 or email email@example.com
Details about Barts Cancer Institute can be found at www.bci.qmul.ac.uk
The closing date is 24 July and interviews are likely to be held shortly thereafter.
