About the Role

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Queen Mary University of London is seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Assistant to work with Prof. David Berman at the interface between theoretical physics and machine learning. This position will provide the successful candidate with an exceptional opportunity to become part of a highly active Research Centre focused on one of the most fertile and vibrant areas of theoretical physics.

About You

You will have a PhD in Theoretical Physics and be particularly knowledgeable of recent progress and activity in the machine learning area. You will enjoy working independently, and have strong analytical skills. You will also be able to work effectively as part of a research team. You should have a strong research track record as demonstrated by a good publication record within theoretical physics and be experienced with the ideas and methods of machine learning. In addition, you possess coding experience, in particular in machine learning using packages such as KERAS.

The School is made of two departments, Physics and Astronomy and Chemistry. The School maintains a tradition of outstanding research in ground-breaking fields. The School hosts world-class research centres across a range of areas in Astronomy, Experimental Particle Physics, Theoretical Physics, Condensed Matter & Materials Science, Functional Materials & Nanoscience, Physical & Computational Chemistry and Synthesis ad catalysis. The School has recently seen refurbishment to provide state-of-the-art research, teaching and study facilities for staff and students.

The post is based at the Mile End Campus in London. It is full time (35 hours per week), fixed term appointment for 2 years, with an expected start date of 1st October, 2022. The starting salary will be Grade 4, in the range of £34,733 - £40,797 per annum (pro-rata), inclusive of London Allowance.
