About the Role

An opportunity has become available for the role of Postdoctoral Research Assistant to join Dr Gallipoli’s team (https://www.bartscancer.london/staff/dr-paolo-gallipoli/ ). We use complementary approaches/models to study metabolism contribution to leukaemic cell development/therapy resistance (Dembitz, BioRxiv 2023;Woodley, Nature Communication 2023&Gallipoli, Blood 2018). The project will investigate the role of mannose metabolism in normal haemopoiesis and leukaemia stem cell biology. The postholder will gain experience in characterising normal haemopoiesis and leukaemia models in vitro&in vivo, molecular biology, metabolic profiling, transcriptomics/proteomics.

About You

You will hold a PhD (or be near completion) in a relevant biological or life sciences subject. You will posses a strong drive for research, have the ability to develop independent insights into the project and have the willingness to work flexibly within a team to achieve the project demands as needed. You must be organised, highly self-motivated and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You will need to manage your time effectively, be strongly proactive, knowledgeable, and able to solve complex problems. A demonstrated ability to maintain good laboratory records is also essential. Thorough skills in at least some of the following: flow cytometry, primary cell culture, molecular biology, animal work, gene transduction is essential. Experience in metabolism (seahorse, mass spectrometry metabolic profiling), transcription/epigenetics (RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq) and cell signalling is desirable.

The post is based at the Centre for Haemato-Oncology, Barts Cancer Institute. It is full time (35 hrs/week), fixed term for 26 months. The starting salary will be Grade 4 (Sp 29-33), in the range of £40,223-£44,722 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
