Overview

About the Role

We have an opportunity to join the Centre for Multi-omics, working with some of the world leaders in the genetic discovery of molecular traits, that underly disease mechanisms. Our group identifies genetic regulation of common, complex diseases to discover new drug targets and indications.

We have unique multi-omic biosample repositories for research from consented patients, and available for longitudinal follow-up, from our culturally-diverse local East London population. The successful candidate will be able to use the repositories as well as our collaborations with Genes & Health and Genomics England.

This is a permanent post subject to ongoing funding.

About You

We seek a postdoctoral candidate to advance our research in molecular precision healthcare through the use of ethnically diverse biobank-scale DNA sequencing resources, including whole exome and whole genome sequencing. You will deliver projects that leverage whole-genome sequencing at population-scale to identify rare, high-impact variants shaping human health. You will also have the opportunity to integrate omics research with other thematic foci for PHURI in our multi-disciplinary institute.

We are an ambitious, curious and enthusiastic international team, that promotes scientific excellence and career development in the context of happy family demands.

About the Institute

PHURI will unite world-leading expertise from Queen Mary University of London (QMUL), nationally and internationally to drive research excellence and expedite impact. Our multidisciplinary teams will address research across four interconnected centres:

  • Health data and analytics;
  • Multiomics and single cell analyses;
  • MedTech and Devices
  • Therapeutic Innovation.

These centres will come together to create a complete journey from disease identification, through the development of a therapy or intervention, to translation for patients in the clinic. This integrated approach is a distinguishing feature of PHURI.

PHURI builds on the close partnership between QMUL and Barts NHS Trust to ensure that our research is focused on where it’s needed most, using real-world clinical data to drive the development and targeted prescription of treatments based on patients’ needs. This will help to build a stronger health service for the people of East London, the UK and beyond.
