ABOUT THE ROLE

Applications are invited for a talented and ambitious Research Fellow to work within our NIHR Applied Research Collaboration covering the North East and North Cumbria (ARC NENC). Working as part of multi-disciplinary teams, you will support the Knowledge Mobilisation and Implementation Science research theme in delivery of research activity undertaken in the theme, working collaboratively with partners and other themes in ARC NENC.

This role is fixed term on a 0.8 full time equivalent basis, with contract available until no later than March 31st 2026.

ABOUT THE TEAM

The appointed person/s will be based in the Department of Nursing, Midwifery and Health within the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences at Northumbria University, Coach Lane campus, one of five departments within the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. We provide high quality, research-rich education using a variety of innovative teaching and learning methods and have six active research groupings. The post holder will based in the Implementation and Innovation Research Group  (IIR). IIR work with key health and social care stakeholders to develop innovative, individualised, community-based and organisational solutions to problems of implementation and knowledge mobilisation through applied research. Through high quality research, we develop theories, tools and methodologies as well as interventions to support implementation and knowledge mobilisation in practice.

ABOUT YOU

The successful candidate will have a doctorate in a relevant topic and experience proportionate to the level of post advertised, with experience of undertaking research with an implementation and/or knowledge mobilisation focus. Required skills will include: the development of research studies and analysis plans; quantitative and/or qualitative data collection and analysis; the ability to publish work in high quality peer reviewed journals; the confidence to engage with collaborators at all levels of seniority, across different regions and sectors of the health and care system; and a willingness to work with research partners across multiple Universities. Successful applicants will be appointed to a suitable point on the common payscale according to qualifications and experience.

You will be self-motivated, have excellent communication and writing skills with the ability to successfully bid for research funds. A PhD is essential and a Master’s degree ideal. We are looking to appoint ambitious individuals who have the capacity to work with collaborators from other disciplines and ideally able to supervise junior staff and potentially to contribute to the co-supervision of PhD students. We are seeking individuals who can demonstrate the ability to design and deliver research within agreed timelines, meeting project milestones and producing work of high quality.
