Nottingham Clinical Trials Unit (NCTU) is a rapidly growing registered1 Clinical Trials Unit (http://www.ukcrc-ctu.org.uk ) based in the School of Medicine at the University of Nottingham. The unit’s mission is to conduct top quality, high impact multicentre clinical trials across a range of health areas with the ultimate aim of improving health outcomes. NCTU has a broad portfolio of trials including studies evaluating medical devices, pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions and complex interventions. Other ongoing research includes methodological work to improve the efficiency and quality of trial design, conduct and reporting, plus systematic reviews and meta-analysis. The unit has close links with NHS Trusts, universities and commercial partners.

We are seeking to recruit a medical statistician who will work within our multidisciplinary teams providing methodological input to our portfolio of clinical trials, contributing to design, conduct, analysis and dissemination. They will also be given the opportunity to develop (or continue to develop) research interests and contribute to trials methodology research within the NCTU. There may also be the opportunity to contribute to the development and delivery of ‘research methods’ training courses offered by the unit.

The post is available at two levels – Level 4 which would suit statisticians with considerable experience or level 4a. Candidates for both levels should have at least an MSc in Medical Statistics or equivalent experience (consideration will be given to outstanding candidates who are expected to graduate in 2022) along with Stata and/or SAS programming skills, plus strong organisational and oral/written communication skills. Familiarity with the principles of clinical trials and methods of analyses are essential.

In addition, Level 4 candidates should have experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team and should demonstrate a track record of practical involvement in statistical aspects of designing, conducting, monitoring, analysing, and reporting clinical trials data and/or trials methodology research.

This is a full-time post (36.25 hours per week); however, applications are invited from candidates wishing to work part-time (minimum of 21.75 hours per week). The post is offered on a fixed-term contract for 24 months.

Applications should include an up-to-date CV and a covering letter indicating which post you are applying for (Level 4a or Level 4), providing details of how you meet the criteria of the post, and should also indicate whether you wish to work full or part time (if part time please specify how many hours per week you would prefer to work).
