We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic academic to join the School of Law as a Lecturer in Health and Medical Law. The successful candidate will have research and teaching interests in the general area of health and medical law.  We encourage applications from people with expertise in critical, anti-colonial and anti-racist approaches, and/or in topics such as the law and ethics of: Global Health, Mental Health, and/or Health Technologies, AI and Big Data.

You will be expected to provide leadership in the development of new initiatives in teaching, research, and continuing professional development (CPD), including those which will connect the School of Law with others in the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Science and the wider University.

You should have an established teaching and research profile as well as a proven commitment to promoting the student experience. You will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and assessment (including dissertation supervision); and will work closely with colleagues in the Health, Medical Law and Ethics Subject Area to promote the Law School as a centre of excellence for teaching and research in the field of health, medical law and ethics.

The successful candidate will play a full part in the collegiate life of the Subject Area and the Edinburgh Law School and will be expected to develop and execute a realistic and achievable research plan.

Your skills and attributes for success:     

  • A strong academic profile in the field of Health, Medical Law and Ethics, with a PhD (or very close to completion) or equivalent professional experience.
  • Research interest in, and an ability to design and deliver courses (modules) in the field of Health, Medical Law and Ethics.
  • Ability to develop an innovative research profile and plan in the areas of expertise, including through quality publications.
  • Excellent communication skills and an ability to engage students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
