The IDRIC Centre Manager will manage the Industrial Decarbonisation Research and Innovation Centre (IDRIC), led by the UK Industrial Decarbonisation Champion and IDRIC Director Prof. Mercedes Maroto-Valer. The post will be based in the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences, which has an international research reputation and close connections to the professional and industrial world of science, engineering and technology. The School has around 180 full-time academic staff driving this research activity based in 5 research institutes.

Detailed Description

The decarbonisation of industrial clusters is of critical importance to the UK’s ambitions of cutting greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050, as published in the UK Industrial Decarbonisation Strategy (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/industrial-decarbonisation-strategy ). The UK Industrial Decarbonisation Challenge (IDC) of the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund (ISCF) aims to establish the world’s first net-zero carbon industrial cluster by 2040 and four low-carbon clusters by 2030.

IDRIC has received £20m from UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) to support this Challenge through funding a multidisciplinary research and innovation centre, which currently does not exist at the scale, to accelerate decarbonisation of industrial clusters.

Purpose of the role

The position of IDRIC Centre Manager is to support the Centre Director in leading and managing the development of IDRIC into a world-leading research and innovation centre, accelerating industrial decarbonisation and boosting UK industrial productivity. 

This is a Grade 9 role, fixed term 32 months, salary £51,034 to £59,135.

The Centre Manager will have the skills and experience to ensure the successful delivery and future sustainability of this high-profile Centre, during and hopefully beyond its initial 3 years lifetime. Working closely with the IDRIC Director, the ideal candidate will have extensive programme, project and line management experience preferably gained across multiple sectors including Higher Education and the private sector, including extensive experience within industry.  They will be an excellent motivator and team leader, with the ability to positively engage stakeholders at all levels, internal and external to the University. The post holder will be responsible for the planning and implementation of all Centre activities and will line manage the Centre team of up to ten staff members. The role will also be responsible for the monitoring and preparation of reports as required by the IDRIC Director, funders and governing bodies.
