Human Resources Business Partner (Professional Services) 

We are looking for a talented individual to join our Human Resources team as a HR Business Partner.  Working onsite and at home, you will work closely with senior management in the Professional Services and the central HR function to provide leadership and operational management to deliver a professional HR service. You will help shape, guide and deliver professional strategic HR advice and support, fully participating in decisions concerning strategic development, implementation, change management and organisational effectiveness.  

You will be an experienced senior HR professional, acknowledged for successfully leading HR projects, facilitating changes positively, with a strategic mind-set and the ability to lead your team in supporting complex cases and delivering HR excellence.  You will be CIPD qualified with recent, demonstrable knowledge and experience of employment legislation and practice and an individual who enjoys helping to enhance management capabilities.

Salary: £59,421 per annum (Grade 8).

Job Description

  • A strategic partner for HR for Professional Services and Taith.
  • Provide the Professional Services senior management team (Chief Operating Officer, Chief Financial Officer and Directors) with professional strategic HR advice and support on the full range of HR issues and delivery of creative HR solutions, frameworks and approaches which meet changing workforce requirements.
  • Manage and lead the Professional Services HR Team and support the Departmental HR contacts where applicable.
  • Manage the University apprenticeship provision working with external apprenticeship providers to identify appropriate development and training opportunities.
  • Manage and develop the Professional Services Mentoring scheme for all Professional Services Staff
  • Work with the Professional Services Transforming Services HR team in providing advice and guidance to Programme leads managing large scale change in accordance with University policies and recast transforming services objectives.
  • Working within the University’s policies to support senior managers in the Departments in planning and delivering effective change management and increase performance of Professional Services, including effective communications with trades unions, managers and staff as required.
  • As a member of the HR Leadership team to proactively represent Professional Service HR challenges in a professional and collegial manner whilst also providing leadership through effective strategic decision making.
  • Within the framework of HR policy and processes, deliver creative solutions, frameworks, supportive practices and approaches, to meet changing external legislative and internal institutional demands and act as a point of expertise for specialist advice for employees, managers, members and external stakeholders.
  • Lead on key HR operational changes to support the People Strategy.
  • Contribute to the leadership and on-going development of the HR function by active participation and collaboration with senior colleagues in the HR Senior Management team; contributing to the development of strategy, policy and plans and in the delivery of key projects.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

Qualifications and Education

  • Relevant Postgraduate qualification/Chartered membership of CIPD or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Substantial experience of leading and managing teams to deliver a high-quality HR service.
  • Specialist knowledge of UK employment legislation.
  • Experience of providing HR advice and guidance on strategic and complex operational matters.
  • Proven experience in operational HR service delivery, including disciplinary and grievance, performance management, employment tribunals etc.
  • Customer Service, Communication and Team Working
  • Ability to communicate detailed and complex information effectively and professionally with a wide range of people.
  • Proven experience of leading and delivering strategic HR projects and change initiatives.
  • Experience of dealing with performance and welfare issues.
  • Evidence of ability to explore customers’ needs and adapt the service accordingly to ensure a quality service is delivered.
  • Planning, Analysis and Problem solving
  • Proven experience in dealing with diverse and challenging problems, including researching issues and creating new solutions where no prior precedent exists.

    Operational

    • Support the Chief Operating Officer in identifying the development needs of senior managers in Professional Services.
    • Leading change and coaching managers on employee relations matters including, but not limited to, restructuring, TUPE, redundancy, workforce and succession planning, workload management etc. 
    • Work with the HR leadership team and wider HR teams across the University to ensure a consistent and highly effective level of HR service, identifying and implementing actions to improve the service.
    • Accountable for all HR provisions within Professional Services.
    • Working with colleagues to develop, design and deliver workshops and training to University staff in areas relating to employee life cycle and any processes and policy changes and or other legislative and operational changes.
    • Supporting and implementing policy changes.
    • Undertake project work or participate in working groups as identified and agreed by the PVC Head of College, Director of HR, College Registrar or Head of HR Operations.
    • Ensure collaborative HR communications and work with other HR Colleagues outside the college.
    Management and Leadership
    • Responsible for the performance, induction, development, appraisal, training and coaching of the Professional Service HR team and the Transforming Services HR team to provide a proactive customer focused service working with other Professional Services and Programme leads.
    • Develop and guide new senior managers on all HR aspects.
    • Review, develop and ensure Key Performance Indicators are met, maximising the added value from internal and external interactions with the wider HR community.
    • Act as a mentor for other HR colleagues.
    Networks and Co-Working
    • Work and consult with senior stakeholders across the University to deliver both proactive and reactive changes to HR operations of the institution, providing leadership and advice to the University to support planning and delivering all required changes and implementing new systems as required.
    • Work with Finance leads, other HR Business Partners, Professional Services Senior Leadership Network and other relevant professionals to facilitate operational changes, understand the commercial environment and input across the institution.
    • Support senior management in trade union relationships as required.
    • Lead and or participate in HR working groups and any other University working groups as required.
