We are seeking an experienced professional with a background in research development, communications and/or marketing to join the College of Science and Engineering and help us promote our vision, our successes and the ways we make a difference to the world.  This is a twelve-month maternity cover post providing a fantastic opportunity to develop and expand your experience across a wide field of responsibility. The Opportunity:

This is an opportunity to use your professional expertise to support, share and help develop the innovative and world-changing research and education at the University of Edinburgh. The post-holder will work closely with the College’s Deans and with senior academic and professional services managers across the College and University to promote the College’s thematic priorities in science, engineering & mathematics. You will make a significant contribution to the direction, development and delivery of communications and events, marketing, stakeholder partnerships and public engagement, and to internal engagement with our staff and student community. 

The post-holder will lead a relatively new and growing team within the College Office providing communications, marketing, events and outreach activity, and services to support the strategic development and promotion of our research priorities. You will work with a wide range of research support, business development, communications and engagement professionals across academic and specialist units within the University and our partner organisations. 

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Relevant experience at increasing levels of responsibility in one or more of strategic communications, stakeholder engagement, research and business development, science writing/science communication.
  • Very strong interpersonal skills including relationship-building and influencing. 
  • Demonstrated skills and success in managing effective stakeholder communications.
  • Track record of leading and developing a team.
