Financial Assurance Analyst

Updated: 3 months ago
Location: Oxford, ENGLAND
Deadline: 22 Jan 2024

This vacancy is for internal candidates only and is offered on a secondment basis.

The role supports Financial Assurance and Counter Fraud to undertake an annual programme of departmental visits, to meet departments’ appetite to understand management of financial risk across the University and share good practice.

This is an excellent development opportunity, providing a unique opportunity to work with senior finance colleagues across the Finance Division and departments while building an understanding and identifying good practice across the range of financial processes and controls.

The University of Oxford is a stimulating work environment, which enjoys an international reputation as a world-class centre of excellence. Our research plays a key role in tackling many global challenges, from reducing our carbon emissions to developing vaccines during a pandemic.

The Finance Division supports the academic, research and administrative community at the University providing sound financial advice and timely information with a range of support services including financial operations, financial reporting, financial support and professional services.

What We Offer

As an employer, we genuinely care about our employees’ wellbeing and this is reflected in the range of benefits that we offer including:

•             An excellent contributory pension scheme

•             38 days annual leave

•             A comprehensive range of childcare services

•             Family leave schemes

•             Cycle loan scheme

•             Discounted bus travel and Season Ticket travel loans

•             Membership to a variety of social and sports clubs

•             A welcoming and diverse community

About the Role

The secondment supports Financial Assurance and Counter Fraud. The Financial Assurance function provides assurance that the University’s financial processes and controls are properly designed and operating as intended, and drives compliance with the financial procedures. The Counter Fraud function works across the breadth of the organisation to provide expert advice and guidance to risk owners and to help support them to better identify, deter, control, prevent, detect and/or recover from the threats of financial crimes as they relate to their business-as-usual activities.

Depending on your interests and experience and the timeframe of the placement, you are likely to be involved in supporting the programme of departmental visits following up on the Financial Self-Assurance results and sharing good practice; acting as an approachable source of support for departments; developing an in-depth understanding of the key risks and controls within the University’s financial processes, identifying recommendations for change; and/or using reports and other data to understand risk and financial activity across the University.

Whilst this role is a grade 7 position, we would be willing to consider candidates with potential but less experience who are seeking a development opportunity, for which an initial appointment would be at grade 6 with the responsibilities adjusted accordingly. This would be discussed with applicants at interview/appointment where appropriate. We are also open to discussion with staff at higher grades.

We welcome applications from all sections of the community.

This is a hybrid role based primarily within the Financial Assurance and Counter Fraud team at the Finance Division’s offices in Hythe Bridge Street, but it is likely that time will be spent visiting departments across Oxford. You will be able to agree a pattern of remote working with your line manager around visit commitments.

About You

This opportunity would suit someone working in finance in one of the University’s divisions or departments, with enthusiasm for and in depth knowledge and understanding of the University’s financial processes and financial controls, as well as good communication skills and the ability to work with colleagues across the University. The placement could provide useful experience for someone working towards an accountancy qualification and/or would suit someone with audit skills or an interest in internal audit.

Application Process

You will be required to upload a supporting statement, CV and the details of two referees as part of your online application.

The closing date for applications is 12 noon on 22 January 2024.
