This new part-time or full-time post (0.8 - 1 FTE) is available from 1st April 2024 on a permanent basis. Based from our Exeter Streatham campus and offers the opportunity for hybrid working - some on campus and some from home.

Summary of the role

Exeter Innovation aims to bring a new focus to partnerships and collaborative working with external, non-university partners and to drive place-based innovation.  It works at the interface between Research and Education and collaborates closely with the Research Support and Global Engagement and Development teams as part of an integrated Professional Services eco-system. Its key aim is to secure significantly greater income and impact from relationships with partners drawing on the University’s education, research, and physical assets.  This includes curriculum development, skills, placements, education links/branded degrees with business and business related-student recruitment, as well as research collaboration and commercial partnerships. 

The post holder will be part of the Enterprise and Innovation Programmes team which is part of Exeter Innovation.

This Enterprise & Innovation Programmes (EIP) Manager post is responsible for:

  • managing Exeter Innovation’s approach to governance and compliance relating to our engagement with external stakeholders.
  • undertaking due diligence, in line with University policy and external regulation, across the range of external partners the University is seeking to engage in knowledge exchange activities including, but not limited to: private, public and third sector partners engaging in research, consultancy, education and business support as well as investors, licensees and executives engaged in our Commercialisation portfolio.
  • triage projects and activities and advise colleagues in relation to conflict of interest, export control, national security and other aspects of the Trusted Research & Innovation framework, collaborating with Legal Services and CGR as well as relevant Government stakeholders.
  • presenting and communicating complex information in digestible formats to enable informed decision making to happen at speed
  • engaging and reporting to the Divisional Director, executive committee, UEB and Council to ensure partnerships are considered in line with University policy
  • reviewing and improving internal processes and policies to incorporate best practice from the wider sector and in relation to changing legislation
  • collaborating across teams, PS Divisions and Faculties to bring together relevant internal expertise to manage projects and partnerships

They will be expected to work closely with colleagues across Exeter Innovation as well as other internal stakeholders in all three Faculties and across Professional services, particularly Legal Services and Compliance Governance & Risk. Externally, the post holder will be expected to engage with industry and commercial stakeholders as well as Government bodies such as the Research Collaboration Advice Team and Investment Security Unit.
