About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to lead the Department of Engineering, within the School of Digital Technology Innovation and Business.
With a focus on sustainability and renewable technologies the Departments programmes include electrical, electronic, mechanical, aeronautical and transport engineering. The department is showing growth in undergraduate applications and our strategically important apprenticeship programmes are in development for September 2024.
You will be joining a department that has an extensive and developing relationship with the MOD with many serving personnel studying our courses.
As an experienced or aspiring manager and highly capable academic, your industry practice/research experience will inform your work in leading the Department. You will have an inclusive management style and will be able to motivate and support your colleagues and students. You will be leading an experienced team of well-motivated and capable colleagues to deliver an excellent student experience and grow income streams from research and enterprise. We are seeking an academic with an ability to manage budgets and use business intelligence to ensure our ambitious targets are delivered within budget and in a timely manner.
Your understanding of the wider HE landscape will support the Department to identify new opportunities and partners to support ambitious growth targets.
Alongside managing the Department, as a well-rounded academic who excels in an engineering subject, you will develop your academic standing through excellence in teaching, research, enterprise and professional engagement. As a member of the School Management Team, you will make a positive contribution to leadership within the school, supporting colleagues to deliver our strategic vision.
You will have a clear vision for academic excellence and industry relevance, a keen eye for developments and opportunities across a range of academic fields, and an enthusiasm for collaboration across a connected curriculum. You will be confident in representing the Department to potential external partners and stakeholders.
