About The Chadburn Lectureships

The Chadburn lectureships in medicine, are funded by the legacy of Miss Maud Chadburn, a pioneer in the medical training (and treatment) of women. They have been a pioneering way in which London medical schools have provided opportunities for individuals from a variety of backgrounds to engage in academia and continue the development of their academic careers within medicine.

The posts are designed to suit people with a research, education or leadership background who need to work part time, enabling them to balance progressing their career alongside the other commitments they have. The role is only open to medical graduates who have not yet completed their postgraduate training.

About the Role

It is an exciting time to be involved in Medical Education at Queen Mary. We are in the process of writing a new curriculum for the MBBS. The Chadburn Lecturers in Clinical and Communication Skills will be an active part of the curriculum development process, and will contribute to student education and experience through the delivery of teaching activities across the Faculty’s medical degree programmes – shaping the agenda for our students and positioning QMUL as the best place to study medicine. It is a part-time, (21 hours per week), fixed term appointment for 2 years.

About You

A collegial, ambitious, and inclusive clinical educator, you will see this as an opportunity to transfer your existing high quality, innovative style in teaching and scholarship into a different environment in the area of clinical and communication skills. You are a proud and ethical doctor who is keen to pursue a career in academia within an Institute that can provide the flexibility to meet your needs.

About the Institute

Part of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, the Institute for Health Sciences Education (IHSE) is responsible for the delivery of the faculty’s medical degree programmes. Together with partner hospitals and primary care practices, we provide an innovative, forward-thinking, and responsive curriculum to our passionate, diverse student body.

About Queen Mary

At Queen Mary University of London, we believe that a diversity of ideas helps us achieve the previously unthinkable.

Throughout our history, we’ve fostered social justice and improved lives through academic excellence. And we continue to live and breathe this spirit today, not because it’s simply ‘the right thing to do’ but for what it helps us achieve and the intellectual brilliance it delivers.

We continue to embrace diversity of thought and opinion in everything we do, in the belief that when views collide, disciplines interact, and perspectives intersect, truly original thought takes form.

Benefits

We offer competitive salaries, access to a generous pension scheme, 30 days’ leave per annum (pro-rata for part-time/fixed-term), a season ticket loan scheme and access to a comprehensive range of personal and professional development opportunities. In addition, we offer a range of work life balance and family friendly, inclusive employment policies, flexible working arrangements, and campus facilities including an on-site nursery at the Mile End campus.

Queen Mary’s commitment to our diverse and inclusive community is embedded in our appointments processes. Reasonable adjustments will be made at each stage of the recruitment process for any candidate with a disability. We are open to considering applications from candidates wishing to work flexibly.
