Overview

About the Role

Contribute to groundbreaking genomics research technology. We seek a person with strong molecular biology or bioinformatics skills to join dynamic spin-out company. Pragmatic Genomics produces SequenceServer, a platform for analysis and visualisation of unpublished DNA and protein sequence data, including using BLAST. Our tool is essential for applications including vaccine development, synthetic biology, crop growth optimisation, university teaching and research, and tracking illegal ivory seizures. Your work will have broad impact.

As a central member of our team, you'll empower current and prospective SequenceServer users to unlock the full potential of our software. This role is a unique blend of scientific innovation and user engagement, requiring a balance of bioinformatics expertise, biological insight, and social skills. You'll be instrumental in developing documentation, refining software features, and fostering our community online and in-person.

This is a great opportunity to join a young company. You will also join a well-established community of genomic and molecular scientists at QMUL’s School of Biological and Behavioural Sciences.

About You

Molecular Biology or Bioinformatics expertise: You have a solid molecular background, and have applied BLAST for various real-world analyses. You understand genomic comparisons, PCR, cloning, and more.

Analytical and Creative: You have strong analytical skills, a passion for scientific excellence, and a creative approach to problem-solving.

Excellent writer: Exceptional written communication skills and a knack for creating engaging designs and technical documentation are crucial. Evidence of blogging, visual design, conference presentations, tweets or tutorial videos are pluses.

Technical Savvy: Command-line experience of bioinformatics tools and R/python/ruby/js programming are pluses.

The role will include creation of relevant technical documentation (e.g., blog posts, website content, tutorials), following up with potential customers, and working independently to support the visibility and impact of the project. Attention to detail and great organizational skills. You’ll think creatively about the best ways to support SequenceServer, and will implement proposed ideas. You will shape the future of SequenceServer, including through specifying, testing and refining how the software can be improved.
