About the Role
Genes & Health is one of the world’s largest community-based genetics studies, aiming to improve health among those of Pakistani and Bangladeshi heritage by analysing the genes and health of 100,000 people. Bilingual study assistants will contribute to research investigations under the supervision of the study team. Duties will include contacting research participants, obtaining informed consent, providing interpretation where necessary, and undertaking all record keeping for collected samples and data.
About You
You will be fluent in at least one relevant South Asian language (Sylheti/Bengali, Urdu), and will have good communication skills to help explain the Genes Study and what will happen during a study visit. The post holder will take blood samples using their phlebotomy skills, organise the collection of data and questionnaires, and file study paperwork. Experience working in a healthcare or research environment will be helpful.
About the Institute
The Blizard Institute was established in 2003 and is one of the largest of seven Institutes within Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London. The Institute comprises approximately 400 staff based in five academic centres and one Public Engagement Centre, and supports a combined total of c750 postgraduate research and taught students. The Institute delivers excellence in all aspects of research, teaching and clinical service.

The post is based at the Whitechapel Campus in London. It is a full time or part time (21-35 hours per week), fixed term appointment for 2 years, with an expected start date of December 2021. The starting salary will be Grade 3, in the range of £28,208-£34,733 per annum (pro-rata), inclusive of London Allowance.
