The Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Administration, Masaryk University, invites applications for the following position:Assistant Professor in Public Economics

The Department of Public Economics at Masaryk University is looking for a highly motivated, experienced part-time (20 hours a week) Assistant professor (tenure-track) with a clear research focus, publications in highly reputed international journals, and an established network of collaborators from leading European universities. The successful candidate will cooperate in teaching mandatory and elective courses in Public economics and related domains.

The position is designed to allow the candidate to work in an established team and also to pursue their research agenda and develop new research projects. Active participation in teaching (both in Czech and English) is an integral part of the job.

In case of interest and mutual agreement, this position can be combined with the position of manager of the Masaryk University Experimental Economics Laboratory (MUEEL). This combination can then offer up to a full-time job.

What does the position entail?

  • Publishing in top-tier academic journals in the field of Public Economics or Public Administration,
  • active collaboration with other members of the department,
  • developing international cooperation with leading universities in Europe,
  • participation in ongoing research projects and seeking for external research grants at national and European level,
  • participation in teaching bachelor and master courses in programs guaranteed by the department with a workload of 4 - 6 hours per week,
  • supervision of bachelor and master theses.

What do we require?

  • Holds Ph.D. in the field of Public Economics, Economics, Public Administration or related field or expects to complete studies in the first half of 2023,
  • publications in reputed journals in the field of Economics, Public Economics and Public Administration,
  • experience with teaching in bachelor's and master's programmes and experience with supervising final theses,
  • experience with collaboration with researchers from universities with high reputations,
  • ability to lecture and communicate in the Czech and the English language,
  • interest in staying at the faculty for at least 3 years,
  • the earliest starting date of the contract is February 15th, 2023; a later starting date can be negotiated.

What do we offer?

  • A part-time (20 hours a week) Assistant Professor (tenure-track) position at one of the highest-ranked universities in the region of Central and Eastern Europe,
  • the possibility (based on mutual agreement) to combine the position with the position of manager of the Masaryk University Experimental Economics Laboratory (MUEEL). This combination can then offer up to a full-time job (40 hours a week),
  • research and teaching collaboration with the head of the MUEEL  Jiří Špalek,

  • a 3-year initial contract (with possible extension and the tenure track),
  • an initial wage of 20,000 – 25,000 CZK/month (around €800 - €1,000) + bonuses for the equivalent of 0.5 FTE (the median wage in the Czech Republic is about 34 000 CZK/month for 1.0 FTE),

  • a Cover letter explaining the candidate's motivation for the position at Masaryk University and a basic proposal of the research agenda for the next 3 years. The annex to the Cover letter consists of a list of current international collaborations (names, institutions, type of collaboration) with a short description of three most important collaborations,
  • academic CV, including a summary of work experience, involvement in research projects, and description of teaching experience over the last 5 years (see What do we require section). The academic CV must contain ResearcherID and a link to an updated WoS Author profile,
  • a copy of one publication to serve as a "job market paper" for a possible public seminar held as part of the selection procedure,
  • copies of relevant academic qualifications.
