We have an opportunity for an experienced and self-motivated Application Analyst who will reside within the Business Applications team. You will be able to contribute to the management and proactive support of a wide range of software that prop up several, key staff and student facing services. You will be joining a friendly, passionate team with ambition and drive to improve and modernise Information Technology operations. You will work closely with colleagues from across our University and your responsibilities will include
- Working with your team to solve complex operational problems covering a broad range of software services supported by several technology platforms.
- Interacting with your colleagues towards achieving the University’s strategic goals, including meeting performance review goals, throughout a year.
- Actively searching for opportunities to improve services and processes
- Ensure effective monitoring to enable proactive maintenance of supported services.
- Work closely with project teams to successfully deliver new services, within your team’s area of technical ability
- Ensure key documentation is maintained for live services
- Serve as a key technical resource for several university software services.
Candidates from a variety of Application Support or development backgrounds will be welcomed. A customer focussed work ethic and ITIL based service delivery experience would be ideal.
Day-to-day, you will be focussed on ensuring that our student records system, Virtual Learning Environment, Enterprise Resource Planning systems and several other services are fully supported and well managed. We use a wide range of technologies to deliver these services. These include SharePoint, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, IIS, Windows Server, PowerShell and public cloud services such as Azure, AWS and Oracle Cloud. You will be integral to new service on-boarding, team resource planning sessions and Continual Service Improvement. You will report to and work closely with the Business Applications Senior Application Analyst.
Skills and Experience:
- Degree or equivalent.
- Relevant professional qualification
- Has achieved proficiency in the Task of Application support
- Able to demonstrate experience of working on projects and of communicating with users on technical issues.
- Demonstrates good oral and written communication skills. Is effective and persuasive in the presentation of local procedures, both orally and in writing.
- Has a thorough knowledge of business aspects of the application(s), and of technical aspects of the application system(s) and the hardware and software environment in which they run.
- Has a thorough knowledge of information systems development processes or networks or other skill areas which are relevant to the role and the applications to be supported.
- Demonstrates a meticulous method of working and attention to detail.
- Has general awareness of all phases of the systems development life cycle.
- Demonstrates a rational and organised approach to the tasks undertaken and an awareness of the need to achieve quality.
- Able to demonstrate some knowledge of testing procedures.
