Two Senior Research and Teaching Associate / Postdoc Positions
80 % per position

The Media & Internet Governance Division at the Department of Communication and Media Research (IKMZ) studies media policy and media economics in the convergent communications sector. Alongside research on traditional mass media, the division focuses on Internet Governance and Platform Studies. The successful applicants will work on dedicated topics that align with the division's research program. One of the two positions will primarily contribute to a research project funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF)
(Sinergia Project no. 209250 ),
which will, among other things, develop policy recommendations for dealing with problematic content on social media. It combines insights from governance research with computational social science methods to model and quantify the impact of regulatory measures.
Your responsibilities
  • Collaboration in the Division's research projects and research proposals
  • Further academic qualification within the Division's research and teaching areas that qualifies for application for a professorship
  • Publications and conference participation
  • Teaching
  • Student supervision and administrative work

Your profile
  • PhD degree in communication science or a related discipline in the social sciences
  • Excellent knowledge in the fields of media policy and Internet Governance, for the project position especially knowledge in the field of alternative modes of regulation (self- and co-regulation); knowledge of media economics and media law of advantage
  • Strong interest in further academic qualification (habilitation or equivalent qualification)
  • Very good knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods and their applications; extensive experience with statistical and other analysis software; interest in computer simulation
  • Strong team orientation
  • Accurate and reliable work attitude
  • Excellent time management, ability to take initiative and independent work attitude
  • Proficiency in written and spoken German and English; additional foreign languages (Swiss national languages in particular) of advantage

Start of employment
Immediately or upon agreement (for the SNSF-project by 1 January 2023 at the latest).

The project position has a maximum term of 4 years, the second postdoc position has a maximum term of six years and can under certain conditions be extended by another 3 years.
