Your mission :

The Institute of Chemical Sciences and Engineering (ISIC, https://www.epfl.ch/schools/sb/research/isic/) of EPFL is looking for a technical specialist in mass spectrometry to join the team of the Mass Spectrometry and Elemental Analysis platform (https://www.epfl.ch/schools/sb/research/isic/platforms/mass-spectrometry-elemental-analysis/).

You will have the mission of carrying out mass spectrometry analyses for researchers from ISIC and other EPFL faculties. You will be involved in measurements, instrument management, upkeep and maintenance operations and user support. As the user profile is extremely varied, we are looking for an open, flexible, and organized person, eager to work in a cosmopolitan and multicultural environment.

Main duties and responsibilities include :
  • MS analyses on different types of latest generation instruments of the service (high and low resolution)
  • Maintenance and troubleshooting of mass spectrometers.
  • Scientific and technical support to users
  • Development of new methods according to the needs of service users.
  • Writing protocols and analysis reports
  • Training of users on open access instruments.

Your profile :
  • Federal Certificate of Capacity (CFC) for laboratory assistant in chemistry or equivalent.
  • Confirmed experience of at least 5 years in a similar position, in a company or institution in the field of chemistry.
  • Mastery of chromatographic separation techniques (GC and UPLC) and their interface with mass spectrometry.
  • Experience in MS analysis of small molecules is an asset.
  • Marked interest in instrumentation (troubleshooting, maintenance, upkeep).
  • Rigor, initiative, good organizational skills, strong team spirit, open and constructive communication, flexibility, and adaptation to changes.
  • Autonomy in the management of activities.
  • Ability to work in a cosmopolitan environment and a customer-oriented environment.
  • Good knowledge of English and French (oral and written) is essential - B2 level required.
