Your mission :
Establish the digital environmental assessment of research and data centers within EPFL, especially the high-performance scientific computing platform SCITAS. Develop a methodology to replicate the study of the impacts of digital services usage in other platforms or institutions.


Main duties and responsibilities include :

In coordination with the Sustainable IT Project Manager:


  • Develop a method to estimate digital usage (digital services, internal and external data centers) at EPFL laboratories and other institutions
  • Measuring the environmental impact of digital computing in computer science research laboratories
    • Raise awareness among associated laboratories of areas for improvement
  • Measure the environmental impact of a school's digital activities
    • Analyze in particular business processes linked to data storage and computing
    • Build optimization initiatives around these business processes
  • Apply the methods developed on SCITAS computing clusters

Your profile :

University or HES, Master's level, in environmental sciences, sustainability or IT

Knowledge:

  • Experience in digital environmental impact assessment
  • Knowledge of life cycle assessment (OpenLCA software, Simapro)
  • Basic knowledge of typical data center architecture (on-premise and cloud)
  • Fluency in French and English

Competence:


  • Ability to write, analyze and summarize
  • Taste for teamwork and networking
  • Organized, methodical, autonomous, the candidate must be able to make proposals
  • Excellent interpersonal and listening skills
