Your mission :

The School of Life Sciences of EPFL Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne invites applications for a position of a mass spectrometry specialist at the Proteomics Core Facility (PCF, https://www.epfl.ch/research/facilities/proteomics-core-facility/). The PCF team is dedicated to provide top-notch mass spectrometry-based proteomic technologies and relevant training to the EPFL Life Sciences community and collaborators.

We are looking for an experienced specialist with a strong understanding of mass spectrometry-based techniques, as well as a deep knowledge of proteomics. This role involves designing and executing experiments, operating and maintaining mass spectrometry instruments, and using data analysis software to interpret and report on the results of experiments.The mass spectrometry specialist will need to have strong communication and interpersonal skills, as they will be working closely with a diverse group of researchers helping them to design and execute their experiments while ensuring that they are carried out in a rigorous and accurate manner.


Main duties and responsibilities include :
  • Design and execute mass spectrometry experiments for proteomics research.
  • Operate, maintain and troubleshoot high resolution mass spectrometers and nano LC instruments.
  • Analyse and interpret mass spectrometry data using specialized software.
  • Collaborate with other scientists and researchers to develop research projects and hypotheses.
  • Write scientific reports and papers detailing the results of experiments.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in mass spectrometry and proteomics.

Your profile :
  • University degree with a minimum of 3 years of research experience in proteomics/mass spectrometry (hands-on experience is necessary).
  • Expertise in implementing quantitative mass spectrometry-based methodologies using both data-depedent and data-independent acquitition workflows is necessary (previous experience with TIMS-TOF instruments is considered a plus).
  • Previous experience in targeted/absolute protein quantitation is a plus (designing and optimizing targeted methods for absolute quantitation, calibrating the mass spectrometer and implementing quality control measures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of data).
  • Applied knowledge with MS software analysis pipelines including (but not limited) to Proteome Discoverer, MaxQuant, Spectronaut, Skyline.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to multiple projects in parallel with learning agility and scientific rigor.
  • Ability to work independently as well as with an interdisciplinary team of scientists in a highly collaborative environment. Previous work experience in a service-oriented environment is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
