The Paul Scherrer Institute PSI is the largest research institute for natural and engineering sciences within Switzerland. For the Energy Economics Group in the Laboratory for Energy Systems Analysis we are looking for an
Scientist
Energy system modelling on a European level
Your tasks
- Performing cutting-edge research in the energy transition in Switzerland and Europe, integration of renewable energy and synthetic fuels in industrial and residential heating/cooling, and in transport
- Contributing to the development of the JRC-EU-TIMES energy systems model for in-depth analysis of carbon-emitting industries and technologies to decarbonize processes in Europe and Switzerland
- Performing energy policy impact analyses and scenario analyses with the JRC- EU-TIMES model
- Scientific supervision of Master students and possibly PhD students
- Contribution to the acquisition of research projects
- Lead model development tasks and coordination of research with project partners
- Dissemination and communication of research results to diverse audiences
- Contribution to teaching activities connected with the ETHZ-ESA Chair

Skills/Qualifications
Your profile
- PhD degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, energy/environmental science
- Experience and knowledge in energy economic modelling and optimisation tools (esp. TIMES)
- Proficient use of programming languages such as GAMS, Python, MATLAB etc.
- Experience with GIS analysis for energy systems modelling
- Solid knowledge about techno-economic characteristics of energy technologies and systems
- Excellent writing and communication skills
