The EPFL Center for Learning Sciences LEARN puts an emphasis on evidence-based evolution of education both for teaching inside EPFL and for education at primary and secondary level. In order to strengthen this ambition and to implement it in the field of digital education, EPFL is partnering with other higher education institutions as part of the BeLearn hub (belearn.swiss). Your main mission is situated in one such BeLearn project ”Monitoring for empowering teachers in the implementation of digital competencies”.

Within this project, we are leveraging the work on monitoring of digital education training that we had put in place in a former project. The previous work established a) a model for the evaluation of the impact of digital education training (https://www.epfl.ch/education/educational-initiatives/fr/center-learn/education-numerique-le-projet-edunum/la-recherche/modele-devaluation-edunum/ ) and b) a toolbox to implement the evaluation model, the “Digital Training Companion” (https://www.digitaltrainingcompanion.tech/ ). In the new BeLearn project, we will implement the Digital Training Companion during the training of future teachers in collaboration with colleagues from PH Bern. We will test and measure the added value of the monitoring toolbox for teacher trainers, pre-service teachers and their students during internships.

We are currently looking for a learning / education scientist to lead the intervention design (in collaboration with teacher trainer / digital education experts from PH Bern), data collection, and study conduct. The team will be composed of the scientist (working partly in the very attractive BeLearn space next to Bern train station), a developer for the technical implementation of the toolbox, two senior researchers from EPFL Center Learn and two professors from PH Bern.

Next to this main mission, you will be involved as a contributor in other projects of the Center LEARN that need research / evaluation accompaniment. Some of these will allow the use of the Digital Training Companion and create direct synergies with the BeLearn project, others might offer opportunities to broaden the topics studied and methods applied.
