The group of Prof. Andreas Moor at the Department of Biosystems Science and Engineering of ETH Zurich, located in Basel, in collaboration with Pattern BioSciences AG, an ETH spin-off company developing biocomputing therapies, is currently seeking a highly motivated Research scientist, in vivo


Project background

The position is funded by the InnoSuisse Innovation Agency to perform the joint project between the group of Prof. Moor and Pattern BioSciencesto discover and develop novel biocomputing-powered gene therapies. The position is funded for two years by InnoSuisse with the option of direct employment at Pattern afterwards.


Job description

You will be responsible for performing ex vivo and in vitro studies using gene therapy approaches with a focus on AAVs to support technology platforms and discovery research in oncology and other therapeutic areas. This is an ideal position for someone with strong analytical skills and extensive hands-on background in life sciences experimentation, who thrives in a team-oriented, cross-disciplinary, and collaborative environment. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to generation, extensive characterization, and analysis of biological samples obtained from in vivo and in vitro experiments, such as

  • Performing assays using in vitro and in vivo -derived samples such as flow cytometry, ELISA, ELISpot assay, enzymatic activity assays
  • Tissue fixation, sectioning, and staining for biomarker characterization
  • Performing biodistribution study using qPCR assays
  • High-throughput gene expression profiling of biological samples using both bulk and spatially-resolved technologies

Your profile

Qualifications

  • A Master's degree or PhD degree in the relevant field with a proven track record of hands-on experience in the workflows and protocols relevant for the position
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and creativity, “out of the box” thinking
  • Ability to operate under pressure and deliver results within specified timelines and budgets

Areas of technical expertise include

  • Mammalian cell culture
  • Fluorescent microscopy, flow cytometry, cell sorting
  • Histology, tissue fixation, cryosectioning
  • IF and IHC staining for biomarker characterization
  • Plate reader assays
  • Immune assays
  • RT-qPCR
  • library preparation for next-generation sequencing and other types of high-throughput profiling
  • Prior experience in animal experimentation and handling of in vivo samples
  • Prior experience in handling and manufacturing viral vectors is a plus
