Your responsibilities

Are you a passionate Python Software Engineer looking to work in a dynamic and innovative environment. Join our high-performance Tools and Services team  within the Scientific Information Service Group , where you'll have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects and collaborate with experts at CERN!

What you'll do:

  • Work with an agile team using top-notch technologies such as Python, Flask, Django, Celery, PostgreSQL, and OpenSearch on the back end and ReactJS on the front end;
  • Contribute to developing and operating various services, including INSPIRE, SCOAP3 CERN Analysis Preservation, which serve thousands of users annually;
  • Build high-throughput REST APIs and create state-of-the-art user experiences to support the global research community;
  • Collaborate with the CERN Information Technology department and other prestigious institutions to design, develop, and deploy innovative tools and services;
  • Enhance your skills and grow your expertise by contributing to open-source projects, addressing unique challenges, and seizing exciting opportunities that align with your engineering interests and strengths.

Skills and/or knowledge

  • A highly motivated Software Engineer eager to learn and grow in a collaborative and supportive environment;
  • Proficiency in Python programming language, with a solid understanding of its best practices, idioms, and ecosystem;
  • Deep understanding of software testing methodologies, including unit and integration testing;
  • Knowledge of relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL, and the ability to write efficient and optimized SQL queries;
  • Understanding ElasticSearch or OpenSearch and their use cases;
  • Familiarity with version control systems like Git and experience in collaborating on projects using GitHub or similar platforms;
  • Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability to new technologies and challenges;
  • Excellent team-player attitude.

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State .
  • By the application deadline,  you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Computer Science (or a related field) and  your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
  • Applicants without University degree are not eligible.
  • Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.
