Your mission :


The person in charge of this position will be responsible for developing EPFL's public engagement policy. To do this, he or she will federate existing resources while proposing new approaches to reach out to society, the political world and Swiss industry. He or she will have to define a project organization and then propose a sustainable structure to support and encourage public engagement, including financing.


Main duties and responsibilities include :
  • Propose concrete, measurable goals for EPFL's public engagement with society, including Swiss policy makers and industry.
  • With the teams in place, map EPFL's current actions onto these goals, suggest new actions to fill any gaps, and determine which existing actions need to be modified or eliminated.
  • Implement a first set of tools to measure the impact of public engagement activities.
  • Initiate an analysis of the current state of public opinion on science and technology.
  • Analyze utilization of existing human and financial resources and determine the need for additional resources.
  • Explore funding options, such as outreach funds from grants external to the institution.
  • Design a new EPFL management structure for EPFL public engagement.
  • Coordinate these activities with ETHZ, which is taking a similar approach.

Your profile :
  • Expertise in dialogue with society, policy makers and business
  • Excellent familiarity with Swiss culture, government institutions and education system
  • Familiarity with the learning sciences
  • Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams
  • Master's degree in engineering, science, business management or marketing
  • Fluency in French and English (C1) and good knowledge of German (B2)
  • Experience in outreach activities is a plus
  • Good knowledge of the ETH Domain is a plus.
