Offer Description

The University of Lucerne is a modern, personal and dynamic human sciences university at the heart of Switzerland and Europe. In keeping with our guiding principle 'Moving Human Sciences', we focus on people and their institutions with our six faculties and two academies, soon to be joined by two university research centres. Our aim is to develop the University of Lucerne into a pioneering, internationally visible centre for research and teaching in the human sciences.

The Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine promotes research and teaching in the fields of health, medicine, functional capacity and rehabilitation. Our mission is to improve health and well-being for all by creating a diverse, inclusive environment for innovative research, education and services.

As of August 1, 2025 or by agreement, we are looking for a

Professor in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences

associated with the function of Director of Swiss Paraplegic Research (SPF) in Nottwil, a research institution of national importance funded by the Swiss Confederation in accordance with Article 15 of the Federal Act on the Promotion of Research and Innovation. The position is designed as a bridge professorship with the SPF, with 30% employment at the University of Lucerne and 70% at the SPF.

Description

As part of the professorship, you will represent your subject area in research and establish an innovative research agenda with international appeal. You will teach in the Faculty's degree programs and be involved in the promotion of young researchers. As Director of the SPF, you will be responsible for the strategic management of the SPF's research program, the successful positioning of the research institute at the national and international level, and the management of the research groups in collaboration with the Co-Director of the Swiss Paraplegic Centre (SPC). If suitable, it is foreseen that you will lead your own research group.

Requirements

Candidates must have a habilitation or equivalent qualification in health or rehabilitation sciences or in another related subject. We expect applicants to have relevant research publications in their field, several years of experience in leading research groups, proven teaching expertise and evidence of competitively acquired third-party funding.

A high degree of integration ability, willingness to cooperate and a sense of overarching goals are important for the position. The Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine sees itself as interdisciplinary. Beyond the subject-specific requirements, skills in interdisciplinary teaching and research across all subject areas and in the interface with the SPF are therefore desirable. The ability to work in a team and the willingness to help shape the Faculty and the Directorate of SPF are expected.

We offer

We offer an inspiring working environment at a young and dynamic faculty with a strong and established partnership with the SPF in Nottwil. The SPF is one of the world's largest non-university research institutions in the field of functioning capacity and rehabilitation research and, together with the University of Lucerne, offers optimal conditions for personal development. The two work locations have excellent transport links in a region with a high quality of life.

The conditions of employment at the University of Lucerne are based on § 2 of the appointment regulations. The conditions of employment at the SPF are based on its own regulations. In the interest of increasing the proportion of women in research and teaching at the University of Lucerne and at the SPF, applications from women are expressly encouraged.

German language skills at level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages should be available or must be acquired within a reasonable period of time.

In your application, please refer to myScience and reference JobID 64065.
