Postdoctoral Researcher on Urban Heat Islands using CFD

The Wind Engineering and Renewable Energy Laboratory (WiRE) of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne (EPFL) searches a postdoctoral researcher for a project entitled “Urban Heat Islands: Modelling and Mitigation”. The project aims at investigating heat island effects and potential mitigation strategies by means of numerical simulations (coupling of weather modelling and computational fluid dynamics).

The main objectives of this project are: 1) Studying urban flows, with emphasis on the influence of heat island effects on the transport of heat, momentum and energy; 2) Investigating potential heat island mitigation strategies (e.g., using vegetation); 3) Validation and improvement of parameterization of heat island effects in large-scale atmospheric models.

Competences:

The candidates should hold a PhD in engineering or physics and have experience in computational fluid dynamics applications to urban flows. It is desirable that the candidates have experience in large-eddy simulation of urban flows.

Applications:

To be considered for this position, please send your CV and a short motivation letter to Professor Fernando Porté‐Agel (fernando.porte‐[email protected] ).
