Postdoctoral position in neural circuit research
The Biozentrum of the University of Basel is one of the leading life sciences institutes in the world. It consists of 30 groups and 500 employees that research how molecules and cells create life, spanning the scale from atom to organism. Founded in 1971, the Biozentrum has been the birth place of many fundamental discoveries in biology and medicine, spawning several Nobel Laureates.
The laboratory of Peter Scheiffele is looking for a postdoctoral fellow.
Your position
We are recruiting a highly motivated scientist to join our team working on in vivo imaging and identification of cellular and molecular mechanisms of cortical circuit development and function in mice. We are a cellular/molecular neuroscience lab and study the development of neuronal connectivity in health and disease states.
We are establishing innovative genetic marking and sensor approaches for advanced in vivo imaging and in vivo cell biology studies. Our projects bridge molecular work on cell type- and synapse-specific functions to imaging and behavior.
Your profile
The successful candidate should be highly motivated to contribute to our efforts on dissecting mechanisms of neural circuit and synapse formation. They are expected to take a leading role in 2-photon imaging experiments (data acquisition and analysis), aligned with molecular studies on synaptogenesis and plasticity. Experience with 2-photon equipment, data acquisition, and programming experience are required. In addition, we expect excellent communication and organizational skills, and the ability to work as a team member.
We offer you
Work in the Scheiffele Lab is supported by state-of-the-art facilities in optical and electron microscopic imaging, computational biology, genomics, and research IT, as well as excellent mechanic and electronic workshops. The Biozentrum is based in the vibrant city of Basel, Switzerland, which offers an exceptional scientific and cultural environment.
Application / Contact
Please submit your application, including your CV, motivation letter and email addresses for 2 referees, at https://biped2.biozentrum.unibas.ch/apply/postdoctoral-position-neural-circuit
Applications will be reviewed as they are received.
