Postdoctoral Position in Brain Tumor Biology and Cancer Stem Cells

(100%) - available as agreed

The Department of Biomedicine of the University of Basel is a leading research institute in Switzerland and promotes integrated research excellence in biomedical science. It consists of 66 research groups and more than 800 employees studying fundamental, applied and clinically relevant topics.

The project

A postdoctoral fellowship is available in the Department of Biomedicine at the University of Basel to study the molecular mechanisms of brain tumor formation and cancer stem cell self-renewal. Our research interest is to unravel differences in molecular requirements of glioma stem cells versus normal neural stem cells, elucidate mechanisms of brain tumor initiation in vivo, and address the role of the tumor microenvironment.

Your profile

We are looking for highly motivated candidates with experience in molecular biology and a solid background in either cancer or developmental biology. Experience with FACS, retroviral vectors, transgenic mouse models, stereotaxic injections, cell transplantation and primary cultures will be a plus.

We offer you

A stimulating research environment in an internationally renewed research team. The lab has extensive experience with conditional genetics, lineage tracing and mouse models of glioma. We exploit a variety of state-of-the-art technologies, including mouse genetics, fluorescent-activated cell sorting, transcriptome analyses, and bioinformatics. The project will be carried out under the supervision of Dr. Claudio Giachino in the Laboratory of Prof. Verdon Taylor.
