The Chair of Applied Macroeconomics is associated with the KOF Swiss Economic Institute  and is part of the Department of Management, Technology and Economics  (D-MTEC) at ETH Zurich. We are looking for a Postdoctoral (equivalent to a non-tenured Assistant Professor) or PhD Researcher in Applied Macroeconomics and/or Political Economy. 


Project background

The Chair's expertise lies in the empirical analysis of broad macroeconomic and policy-relevant topics. The Chair's empirical work employs a wide range of different methodologies, from sophisticated panel econometrics to time series approaches and random control procedures. It uses these and other estimation techniques to address topical macroeconomic policy issues, drawing on national-level data as well as geospatial information and microeconomic firm, household and other types of data.


Job description

You will apply econometric methods using macro and/or microeconomic data to answer policy-relevant macroeconomic and political economy research questions. The focus of the position will be on research. Depending on your preferences, there may also be a small teaching load. 


Your profile

We are looking for an outstanding researcher with a PhD in economics or an interest in obtaining one. You should have experience or the potential to conduct high-quality research, be curious about the topics of the chair and KOF, and have a strong preference for an academic career. Excellent English language skills are required; good German language skills are recommended. We support the careers of women in economics and encourage female candidates to apply.

The starting date is open and the duration is initially 18 months with the prospect of a further extension up to a total of six years, depending on age and qualification. The gross salary is according to the regulations of the ETH Zürich .
