Offer Description

Materials science and technology are our passion. With our cutting-edge research, Empa's around 1,100 employees make essential contributions to the well-being of society for a future worth living. Empa is a research institution of the ETH Domain.

The Laboratory for Thin Films and Photovoltaics is internationally known for innovative research in the fields of thin-film photovoltaics, thin-film batteries, and printed electronics. Specifically, thin-film solid-state batteries (SSBs) are developed for powering wireless sensors or smart cards. A unique feature of thin-film SSBs is their fast charge-discharge capability that is commercially exploited by Empa start-up BTRY AG . At the same time, the thin-film geometry provides a versatile platform for exploring materials and interfacial phenomena that can be transferred to bulk batteries.
