100%, Zurich, fixed-term

The Bomblies group at ETH is seeking a talented postdoctoral fellow focused on the evolution of meiosis in polyploids as part of a project funded by the SNSF.

Project background

Meiosis is an essential cell division within the life cycle of the vast majority of eukaryotes. However, this fundamental process is sensitive to cellular context (e.g. redox state), and environment (especially temperature). This is due, it seems, to the biophysical properties of meiosis proteins, and/or chromatin remodeling proteins. Within the lab, we are studying how meiosis is perturbed by the environment and how plants (in our hands, Arabidopsis arenosa, though we are open to working on other well justified species as well) evolve meiosis to new habitats. We have candidate genes from prior genome scans, and now seek to perform follow-up work to learn more about the adaptative evolution of meiosis.

Job description

Postdoctoral level independent mentored research in cytogenetics and evolution of meoisis. Preparations of presentations and manuscripts. Some mentoring of students and participation in practical and block course teaching. You will have access to lab and office space, as well as microscopy facilities, a genomics center, computing facilities and resources, etc.

Your profile

We seek a creative person with established skills in cytology and microscopy. You should be interested in applying cell biological skills to evolutionary questions. You must also be a team player, who will integrate well into a diverse and collaborative group.
