The ETH Zurich core facility NEXUS Personalized Health Technologies enables biomedical discovery and translational research for personalized health. We offer a broad range of expertise, from software engineering and biomedical data management to statistical and bioinformatics services. Embedded in this multi-disciplinary facility, the screening and lab automation group specialises in screening technologies, assay development, complex cell systems and lab automation. Our projects range from biochemical screens to combinatorial chemical synthesis to sophisticated screening assays with patient-derived organoids.
Job description
We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated Lab Automation Scientist to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in screening and lab automation and a passion for streamlining laboratory processes. The Lab Automation Scientist will be deeply involved in advancing our capabilities in lab automation, contributing significantly to our research and development efforts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and manage lab automation workflows
- Program and operate a variety of lab automation and liquid handling systems
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate automation solutions in laboratory settings
- Ensure efficient and accurate execution of automated processes
Your profile
Required Qualifications:
- Master's or PhD in Life Sciences, Engineering, or related field
- At least 3 years of experience in programming and operating lab automation and liquid handling systems
- Experience in adapting and optimizing cell-based and in-vitro assays
- Familiarity with chemical libraries and relevant chemistry knowledge
- Experience in specific software such as R, KNIME, and Python
- Understanding of mammalian cell culture systems and 3D cell cultures

- Excellent organizational skills, including project coordination, document management and time management
- Service-oriented mindset with excellent communication skills
- Hands-on mentality in problem-solving
- Strong technical affinity and ability to quickly learn new technologies
