Your responsibilities

The Resource Management Group is responsible for the financial management of the IT department and provides direct support to externally funded projects. The group is looking for a Junior Project Budget Officer to contribute to the project and budget management of the IT externally funded projects.

As a Junior Project Budget Officer, you will manage small external projects, including budget and resources within the project scope. You will ensure that the projects are well planned, managed and controlled to make the most efficient use of the allocated resources and finances, and their contribution to associated programmes and/or the IT portfolio. The successful candidate will be responsible for liaising with the Project Office and the Budget Office to ensure comprehensive project tracking and reporting.

Your main duties will be:

  • Prepare project budgets in close liaison with project managers and the Departmental Planning Officer.
  • Provide support to project tracking ensuring efficient project budget utilization.
  • Monitor project expenditure to ensure all budget is utilized in a timely manner.
  • Provide internal IT reporting and information on the project budget and status.
  • Give support to other Financial areas of the department if required.
  • Assist Project Managers as required in the preparation of work plans, project documents, project proposals and reports.

  • Experience with financial management and project management.
  • Organised, with the ability to plan deliveries across a variety of pieces of work and able to balance competing priorities to achieve the desired outcomes.
  • Communicating effectively and the ability to coordinate and liaise with partners.
  • English C1.

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State .
  • By the application deadline,  you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Project and/or Finance Management (or a related field) and  your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
  • Applicants without University degree are not eligible.
  • Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.
