The KOF Swiss Economic Institute at the ETH Zurich is the leading institute for applied research in economics in Switzerland (www.kof.ethz.ch ). KOF provides expert information in the field of economic and business cycle research. It produces a multitude of forecasts and indicators which are used to monitor the economy. It analyses the innovation activities of Swiss companies, publishes studies on the labour market and healthcare spending, and comments on the latest economic developments.


Project background

We are looking for a dedicated individual to perform an internship (3 to 6 months, starting date as soon as possible) for the research project Economic Consequences of Corona Measures in Switzerland in the Research Division Data Science and Macroeconometric Methods, which will examine the following interrelated questions: 

  • What were the effects of corona policy measures on the Swiss economy? 
  • How much of the corona induced drop in economic activity was due to voluntary changes in human behaviour? 
  • How much did the international economic slump affect the Swiss economy? 

Job description

You will work closely with the project leaders Alexander Rathke, Samad Sarferaz and Jan-Egbert Sturm. You will assist in searching for suitable data and putting together a cross-cantonal panel database at daily frequency and in planning and conducting econometric analyses of these data.


Your profile
  • Degree in economics or a related field. 
  • Interest and experience in handling and analysing of cross sectional and time series data. 
  • Good working knowledge of Stata, R or Matlab.  
  • Swiss or EU citizenship, Swiss work permit otherwise.
