Data Manager at the BedrettoLab

At ETH Zürich's Bedretto Underground Laboratory for Geosciences and Geoenergies (www.bedrettolab.ethz.ch), we conduct fundamental and experimental research in various geoscience disciplines in close collaboration with national and international partners. These include earthquake physics, rock mechanics, and techniques and processes for the safe, efficient, and sustainable use of geothermal energy. The monitoring and experimental phases generate very large and heterogeneous data. To support these research activities the BedrettoLab is searching for a data manager. 


Project background

The BedrettoLab team consists of over 30 researchers, engineers, and PhD students, and includes a core team of 10 people covering administration, Project Management, Finance & Controlling, communication, health & safety, laboratory management and operations, technical support, IT support, logistics and facility management.


Job description

As data manager in the BedrettoLab, you will be responsible for the:

  • Implementation of data management concepts
  • Integration of vintage data into the Data Management System
  • Documentation of data before and during acquisition incl. provision of metadata
  • Transfer, storage and archiving of data
  • Implementation of virtual data access and services

The position is planned for 2 years, with a possible extension up to maximum 5 years conditional on available funding.


Your profile

We are looking for a motivated, multi-talented person who is open to working in a dynamic research environment. You will have a background in geosciences, (civil) engineering or related disciplines and experience in managing large, unstructured and heterogeneous datasets. You are also welcome to apply if you are passionate about research and the academic environment, but are interested in a career change.
