Offer Description

Your responsibilities

You will join the Radio-Frequency (RF) Group  in the Accelerator Systems (SY)  Department is responsible for the operation of existing RF systems across the CERN accelerator chain and the conception of new RF systems for projects and studies.

To study beam motion in synchrotrons, the Beam Longitudinal Dynamics (BLonD)  simulator has been developed in the Beams and RF Studies (BR)  section for over ten years. BLonD has been a key tool at CERN, and also in the worldwide user community, to model countless operational and future beam dynamics problems. The BLonD package applies several high-performance computing techniques such as dynamic load balancing and approximate computing. The code and its user base keeps on expanding, asking for creative, state-of-the art solutions to maintain a good runtime performance.

As the main BLonD developer, you will:

  • Complete a restructuring of the code to accommodate new features and improve the computational performance of new techniques being implemented;
  • Implement an automatic tool for pipe-lining the computational core and create an interface to couple BLonD with the 6D beam dynamics code XSuite;
  • Take a lead role in organizing the BLonD community meetings, follow up actions emerging, and give computational support to the BLonD user base.

About us

At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.

We are on a Quest. A Journey into discovery like no other. Bring your expertise to our unique work and develop your knowledge and skills at pace. Join world-class subject matter experts on unique projects, in a Quest for greater knowledge and deeper understanding.
