The School of Life Sciences at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) invites applications for the position of a Cell-Sorting and Flow Cytometry Specialist at the Flow Cytometry Core Facility (FCCF,
https://www.epfl.ch/research/facilities/cytometry/).As a vital component of the EPFL research community, the FCCF platform is generously supported with core funding to offer assistance to the EPFL Life Sciences community and collaborators. The FCCF is equipped with state-of-the-art technology including six high-speed cell sorters (MoFlo Astrios, Fuision, Aria 2u, Aurora CS, Sony SH800) and eight analyzers (Aurora, Galios, LSR II & Fortessa, Attune NxT & CytPix, Cytoflex).
We are looking for an experienced specialist who will play a pivotal part in the operation and optimization of cell sorters for sorting and analysis, using a diverse range of flow cytometric techniques. Your responsibilities will extend to troubleshooting technical faults, conducting minor repairs, and ensuring the platform's optimal functionality. As a key team member, you will contribute to the training of users in flow cytometry techniques, and will also help with instrumentation use and data analysis. Main duties and responsibilities include :
- Operate cell sorters, employing a variety of flow cytometric techniques for sorting and analysis.
- Resolve technical faults and system failures on instruments, perform minor repairs.
- Train research personnel in flow cytometry techniques, data analysis, and instrument operation.
- Effectively communicate specialized/technical information, policies, and procedures to facility users.
- Provide guidance on experimental design and data analysis.
- Maintain the platform in optimal operational condition, oversee the availability of necessary supplies.
- Actively participate in the development and optimization of new protocols and techniques in flow cytometry.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in flow cytometry techniques.
Your profile :
- A degree in a relevant field.
- Several years of hands-on experience and expertise in flow cytometry and cell sorting using state-of-the-art equipment.
- Proficiency in high-dimensional experimental design and data analysis.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey detailed technical information to non-expert users.
- Proven experience in supervising users with varying levels of expertise in cytometry.
- Effective organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks.
- Rigorous, reliable, and well-organized, with capacity to work in a service-oriented context.
- Good written and oral communication skills in English (French would be a plus).
- Ability to operate as a team player in a multi-disciplinary environment.
