Project description
The laboratory headed by Sabrina Büttner is looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral scientist with an interest in the regulation of cellular and organismal metal homeostasis. The research project addresses molecular mechanisms coupled to metal-induced oxidative stress and cell death, i. e. manganese toxicity and ferroptosis. Transition metals play a vital role in cellular metabolism and survival, and metal deficiency as well as metal overload have fatal consequences. Combining cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, and Total Reflection X-ray Fluorescence (TXRF)-based elemental analysis, this project aims to identify the cellular mechanisms affected by dysregulated metal homeostasis and to address fundamental questions of eukaryotic metal biology. As model organisms, the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae and the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster will be used.

Main responsibilities
The position involves research and laboratory-based experimental work within the above-described project.

Qualification requirements
Researchers are appointed primarily for purposes of research and must hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country.

Assessment criteria
In the appointment process, special attention will be given to research skills. The applicant must have received a doctoral degree in the field of biological sciences. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in yeast genetics and expertise in yeast molecular and cell biology. Additional relevant expertise may include mitochondrial biochemistry, TXRF analysis, high-throughput data analysis and experience with Drosophila melanogaster as a model system. Applicants must have demonstrated productivity in pursuing research in relevant disciplines. Good team working skills and social abilities are important. Excellent English language skills, both written and spoken, are a requisite.
