Type 1 diabetes is the second most common disease in children. The disease is chronic and today there is no preventive treatment. The research group has a great interest in how factors in our environment such as common cold viruses and other microbes affect our immune system and the risk of developing type 1 diabetes. The research is conducted in close collaboration with international research networks and is funded by both national and international funding agencies. The group is looking for a research specialist who can work administratively and lead laboratory work


Description of the subject area

The research concerns experimental work in type 1 diabetes, virology and vaccinology.


Your mission

The research specialist participates in the research group's various research and development projects. The work includes supervision of the group's doctoral students / postdocs and active work in various research projects.
The research specialist participates in the establishment and evaluation of new experimental methods, contributes to analyzing and summarizing research data as well as to the writing of scientific publications and grant applications. The research coordinator may also be given overall responsibility for the organization of the group's laboratories and cell culture rooms.


Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as a Research Specialist, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated research expertise as well as have documented research experience after defending their doctoral dissertation.

You must have a PhD in the field of biomedicine, and have several years of documented experience of research in type 1 diabetes and / or infectious biology. Previous experience of research with experimental in vivo models and FELASA-C is a requirement. Knowledge in pancreatic beta cells, vaccinology and immunohistochemistry are a necessity for the tasks.

Excellent language skills in English, both orally and in writing, are a requirement. The applicant must be structured, thorough, service-oriented, independent, flexible, able to work with several different tasks simultaneously and in groups. In addition, the ability to collaborate and prioritize is required. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

It is particularly meritorious that the applicant has shown

  • Previous experience of research using experimental in vivo models of type 1 diabetes and holding FELASA-C certificate
  • Experience working with insulin-producing cells 

It is meritorious that the applicant has shown

  • Previous work experience with supervision and research coordination
  • Has been successful in obtaining independent research funding
