Work duties

In this research work the operating conditions will focus on spray drying applications that will be defined by Tetra Pak.

The measurements of droplet size (using the LIF/Mie technique) and temperature (using two-color LIF thermometry) will be based on a combination with the use of Structured Laser Illumination Planar Imaging (SLIPI). The measurement of liquid dynamics will be related to a combination of high-speed imaging based of back-scattering and back-LIF detection.

Both macroscopic imaging (viewed areas in the order of ~12 cm for quantitative measurements) and microscopic imaging (viewed areas in the order of ~5 mm for dynamics imaging) will be used during this project.

Detailed description of the work duties, such as:

  • Research within the subject area.
  • Collaboration with the Tetra Pak industry.
  • Guidance and co-supervision of doctoral students.
  • Administration related to the work duties listed above.

Required qualifications for the position are:

  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English.
  • A PhD within the subject of the position.
  • Extensive knowledge on temperature measurements and sizing of particles/droplets using laser based diagnostics. Ability to independently design and carry out experimental research projects related to two-phase flow systems.
  • A broad competence profile and knowledge in heat transfer and fluid mechanics is important for this project.
  • A good ability to develop and conduct high quality research.

Additional qualifications for the position are:

  • Experience on temperature measurements involving temperature sensitive dyes.
  • Experience on laser diagnostic techniques for droplet sizing.
  • Experience in laboratory work related to two-phase flows. Strong skills in programming and image analysis.
  • Journal publications in the field.

Consideration will also be given to how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.

Further information

The position is a fixed term position for one year at 100 per cent of full time and starting 2024-05-01 until 2025-04-30.
