Research assistant
The Department of Peace and Conflict Research was established in 1971 to conduct peace research and offer courses in peace and conflict studies. Currently approx. 90 persons are employed at the Department and approximately 1000 students are enrolled every academic year. Courses offered include undergraduate and post-graduate courses, as well as a Ph. D. programme. For more information, visit www.pcr.uu.se .

We are now looking for a full-time research assistant for a summer substitute position for the employment period 3 June 2024 – 31 August 2024.

Duties
The tasks consist of collecting and coding information on among other things negotiations and arms control treaties from selected sources. Writing text in English, as well as data management, will also be included in the tasks. The work follows the fixed coding rules and conceptualizations, and is made in a small group, where a high degree of independent analytical capacity is expected. Other tasks may also be included depending on needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in peace and conflict studies, or international relations
  • Good knowledge of and theories of peace and conflict
  • Documented experience working with data development (conceptualization, coding rules, scaling, variable construction)
  • Documented experience of working with conflict data (coding/data management)
  • Very good English in speech and writing
  • Good analytical skills
  • Good ability to work independently
  • Good ability to collaborate.

Additional qualifications

  • Good knowledge about international arms-negotiations and arms control treaties
  • Good knowledge about AMC Data’s coding rules and conceptualizations.

The employment is a: substitute position (temporary position, 3 months). Scope of employment: 100%. Starting date: 3 June 2024, or as agreed. Placement: Uppsala.
