Offer Description

The Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology at Uppsala University has a broad research profile with strong research groups focused on cancer, autoimmune and genetic diseases. A fundamental idea at the department is to stimulate translational research and thereby closer interactions between medical research and health care. Research is presently conducted in the following areas: cancer precision medicine, cancer immunotherapy, genomics and neurobiology, molecular tools and functional genomics, neuro-oncology and neurodegeneration and vascular biology. Department activities are also integrated with the units for Oncology, Clinical Genetics, Clinical Immunology, Clinical Pathology, and Hospital Physics at Akademiska sjukhuset, Uppsala. The department has teaching assignments in several education programmes, including Master Programmes, at the Faculty of Medicine, and at the Disciplinary Domain of Science and Technology. The department has a yearly turnover of around SEK 500 million, out of which more than half is made up of external funding. The staff amounts to approximately 345 employees, out of which 100 are PhD-students, and there are in total more than 700 affiliated people. You will have the possibility to work at EpiHubben Uppsala University. EpiHubben is a dynamic and friendly research working environment with great opportunities for interaction. Today approximately 50 researchers from different research groups are located in this nice working environment. In addition, you will work together with researchers at Sci Life Lab and associate professor Panagiotis Baliakas at the clinical genetics’ facility, Uppsala University. 

Work description  
You will develop and undertake a research project focused on identifying early detection of relapses for patients having had lymphomas. In addition, you will work with identifying novel prognostic and predicting markers studying whole exome sequencing from lymphoma tumors, omics analysis from lymphoma patients and integrations with clinical data and national register-based data.  

Requirements  
To qualify for an employment as a postdoc you must have a PhD degree or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD degree in a relevant area of medicine, biology or biochemistry (e.g., molecular/cell/tumor biology). The PhD degree must have been obtained no more than three years prior to the application deadline. The three-year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labor unions, etc. 
-  Experience in bioinformatics applied to high-dimensional and/or high throughput data, for example analyzing genetic data generated with next generation sequencing  
- Skills in data management, statistical analysis and modeling (R/Python or SAS, STATA and/or)   
- Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills in English   
- Detail-oriented, professional and well-organized with good collaborative skills   

Merits

- Knowledge/experience of the following fields is an advantage: medicine, in particular oncology, hematology and immunology   
- A good publication track record.   
- Laboratory experience, and knowledge

About the employment
