The Cell and Molecular Biology department at Uppsala University has a strong and international research and teaching environment and is organized in six major research programs. In total the department has over 200 scientists, including 60 PhD students.

The Sundborger-Lunna lab is looking for a highly motivated Research assistant to assist in the development of innovative molecular methods of the study of protein-lipid interaction. We offer a stimulating multi-disciplinary environment where you will work closely with experts in biophysics, biochemistry and structural biology. The overarching goal of the lab is to determine the molecular mechanisms that regulate mitochondrial membrane dynamics using a multi-disciplinary approach including cryo-EM (e.g. Bhatt et al., Nat Comm, 2020; Bhatt et al., Structure 2021). Duties
The work will include:

  • Protein expression
  • Protein purification
  • Functional assays
  • Liposome and nanodiscs preparation
  • Cryo-EM analysis of protein-lipid complexes

Requirements
Master’s degree or a foreign degree equivalent in Biology, Biochemistry or a related field. Experience with standard molecular biology techniques, including protein expression and purification is required. The position requires a high level of organizational skills and excellent ability to handle documentation. Excellent (English) communications- and team working skills, and an enthusiasm for learning new skills are required.

Additional qualifications
Experience with cryo-EM sample preparation is preferred.
