The Department of Neuro consists of 21 research groups conducting research in neurological diseases as well as brain and spinal cord injuries. In the group of Translational Neuropharmacology, approximately 15 employees are employed, including: Molecular biology and biochemical researchers and medical doctors under supervision of Professor Per Svenningsson. The aim of the research within the group is to further understand the cause of different neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinson's disease and Huntington's disease, in order to discover new and better therapies for patients suffering from these diseases. The research extends widely from basic research to patient-oriented clinical research, which facilitates the translation of basic findings into clinical and clinical findings into basic research. The strength of the group lies in the fact that this translational opportunity is combined with methodological expertise in genetics, radiology and protein science.
As a research assistant, the successful candidate will work with protein analysis (Western blot), histological analysis (immunofluorescence, in situ hybridization), analysis of data from in vivo neurotransmitter recordings (glutamate, dopamine recordings) and cytological analysis (immunofluorescence). The source of these samples will be from cell lines, animal models and human samples. The applicant will work close with patients and perform skin biopsies, blood sampling and lumbar punctures to obtain working material.
