Do you want to contribute to improving human health?
Research at the Division of Molecular Metabolism aims to understand the regulation of mitochondrial function and the role of mitochondrial dysfunction in disease and ageing. For this, we use a combination of patient material and animal models to gain insights into disease pathophysiology and develop novel treatments. We are currently seeking a research assistant to join the Wredenberg lab.

Division of Molecular Metabolism
The Division of Molecular Metabolism, Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics, is located at the newly built and modern laboratory Biomedicum at Solna campus of Karolinska Institutet. Our research covers biochemical and genetic studies of patients with inherited diseases and basic scientific approaches to understand the regulation of mitochondrial metabolism. We offer an outstanding research environment and a close interaction between basic science and clinical science and diagnostics at the Centre for Inherited Metabolic Diseases (CMMS) at Karolinska University Hospital, Stockholm, Sweden. Excellent access to the most advanced molecular and cell biology resources is available at the department and the national core facilities at the Science for Life Laboratory.
Your mission
Mitochondrial dysfunction is a hallmark of rare and common diseases and is heavily implicated in age-associated diseases and the natural ageing process. As a research assistant, you will work alongside other lab members to support the successful completion of their projects. The possibility to develop and run your own project will be given.
Your profile
The Wredenberg group uses biochemistry, molecular biology, and modern omics approaches to understand the molecular processes underlying the progression of mitochondrial dysfunction and ageing. In addition, in vivo modelling using fly and mouse models, including conditional knockout strains, will be implemented in this project.
We thus invite applications from enthusiastic and motivated individuals with an MSc or equivalent in molecular biology or genetics-related subjects. Knowledge in mitochondrial research and bioenergetics is meriting, and experience in fly husbandry is required. Proficiency in basic molecular biology, as well as competence in large data analysis, are advantages. Strong documentation skills and proficiency in spoken and written English are essential. Successful candidates should be able and willing to work collaboratively within a team to pursue their research. Personal suitability is of great importance when evaluating applicants.
Entry requirements
The position is aimed at pre-doctoral graduates and is limited to one year.
To be eligible for the research assistant position, the person must have obtained a master's degree or equivalent in a subject related to the position. Applicants who have not completed their master’s program at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date.
What do we offer?
A creative and inspiring environment with wide-ranging expertise and interests. Karolinska Institutet is one of the world's leading medical universities. Our vision is to pursue the development of knowledge about life and to promote a better health for all. At Karolinska Institutet, we conduct successful medical research and hold the largest range of medical education in Sweden. Karolinska Institutet is also a state university, which entitles you to several good benefits through our collective agreement. And you get to practice freely in our modern wellness facilities, where trained staff are on site.
Location: Biomedicum, Campus Solna
Application
Welcome to apply at the latest April 25th.
The application is to be submitted through the Varbi recruitment system. In this recruitment, you will apply with your CV without a personal letter. Instead, you will answer some questions about why you are applying for the job in the application form.
